Dr Ben McEwen
Co-lead | Postdoctoral Researcher
University of Amsterdam
Machine Learning, Biodiversity
Dr Ben McEwen is a postdoctoral researcher specialising in audio machine learning and bioacoustics. His research focuses on active learning and data-efficient biodiversity monitoring to detect rare and invasive species. Currently based at the University of Amsterdam, he contributes to transnational acoustic monitoring while co-leading computational tool development at the Listening Lab.

Kaspar Soltero
Co-lead | PhD Candidate
University of Canterbury
Bioacoustics, Sound Localisation
Kaspar Soltero is a PhD candidate focused on computational bioacoustics, acoustic source localisation, and ecological modelling. His research develops novel pipelines to close the gap from passive acoustic monitoring to animal abundance estimation, using acoustic localisation and bioacoustic data synthesis. He works with local communities in the Waitaha region to monitor the health of the ecosystem.

Professor Stefanie Gutschmidt
Co-lead | Professor
University of Canterbury
Acoustics, Dynamics and Vibrations
Professor Stefanie Gutschmidt leads research at the intersection of sound and motion, spanning topics from nanoscale multiphysics interactions to macroscale ecological acoustics. Her expertise encompasses nonlinear dynamics and vibrations, MEMS sensor technology, collective oscillatory systems, fluid–structure interactions, and acoustics. Her research is enabled by collaborative, cross-disciplinary approaches that bring together engineers, physicists, biologists, ecologists, mathematicians, and computer scientists. At the University of Canterbury, she co-directs both the Listening Lab and the Dynamics Systems Lab.
